The secret is out for the 2010 model year.  The previous generation of the MazdaSpeed3 flew a bit under the radar of the hatchback car buying public.  People began to take notice as word spread about this great looking car that packed a turbocharged engine along with superior handling for under $25,000.  In fact the first generation mazdaSpeed3 took home a lot of car publication’s trophies.

Billed as a Crazy-Fast Box of Fun by Car and Driver, the MazdaSpeed3 delivers the visceral experience on the level of cars costing twice as much.  This hot hatch is powered by a 4-cylinder turbocharged engine producing an amazing 263-horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque.  This is enough power to get the car from 0-60 MPG in the 5 second range.  There is a nice close-ratio six-speed transmission available that keeps the engine in its sweet spot and a limited-slip differential to put the power to the pavement.  Fuel economy is right on par with similar vehicles at 18 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway.

The MazdaSpeed3 is only available in one trim level called Sport.  But standard features include great looking 18-inch rims wrapped in 40-series Dunlop Sport tires, full power accessories like locks and windows, Bluetooth, leather wrapped steering wheel, sport seats, cruise control, and the list goes on.  You can add the Tech package which gives you a top-of-the-line Bose Surround Sound Stereo with Satellite Radio, keyless entry, and a navigation system.   Safety wise the MazdaSpeed3 is a top pick by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety and received excellent marks for crash impact.  Stability Control is a feature that Mazda has included in this car.
